Ann Stephenson

Ann Stephenson’s artwork resonates with vibrant color and textual design. Working with alcohol ink allows little control, but Ann’s tools and techniques allow her to balance the flow with the placement of the shapes, layers, and colors she strives for. Ann describes it as a puzzle; she arranges the elements until they fit visually on the substrate.

While Ann’s art is abstract and contemporary, the viewer sees shapes that may be natural or geometric. Each element is created on its own before coming together with others. Some of Ann’s newer work involves flowing acrylic paints and resin.

Art is not new to Ann. From an early age she played with natural forms – birds and landscapes-- and then abstracts. While bold, bright colors make her feel alive and happy, she welcomes the unpredictability and challenge of alcohol inks. The possibilities are endless, she says, whether using them alone or with other mediums in her collages.
