Making art is something that I have done all my life. The challenge of creating in a new way is one of my passions. I studied art and art education, receiving a BS degree in Art Education from Old Dominion University.
I primarily paint in oils, and encaustic paint, using the natural world as my subject matter. My encaustic paintings are a combination of encaustic medium (beeswax and damar resin), pigment, oil paint and mixed media. I generally paint and heat fuse many layers to create a textural and luminous appearance. I use birch plywood, encaustic board, or other rigid substrate as a foundation.
In the past several years I have had art included in solo and group shows at the Arts Council, the Edith Carrier Arboretum, the Spitzer Art Center, and at Oasis Gallery, where I display my current work.
I give private art lessons and group classes from my studio and the classroom at the Spitzer Art Center, 486 West Market Street, Harrisonburg, and am a board member at the Spitzer Art Center as well.
