Sarah Lock

I work in metalsmithing and lapidary (stonecutting and polishing). I design both one-of-a-kind and limited production jewelry and small sculptures, then use non-ferrous metals such as silver, gold and copper, brass and bronze to create my designs. I use hand polished semiprecious stones from Virginia and around the world to enhance some designs. A variety of techniques are employed in the creative process, such as: piercing with a jewelry’s saw; construction and shell forming in a sheet silver; soldering; forging; chasing and repousse; wire forming; and lost wax casting.

I live in Harrisonburg, Virginia and market my jewelry designs under the name “Metals and More”. My designs display strong influences from nature and animal themes. I received a Master of Art degree from James Madison University in 1978, with dual concentrations in metalsmithing/jewelry and painting. I have been a working silversmith for 30 plus years, selling work in regional galleries and craft shows. I also teach metalsmithing through workshops and private classes, passing on my love of jewelry design and tools to future artists.

I am a charter member of the OASIS gallery and a juried member of the Association of Virginia Artisans.
