What's new at OASIS?
Opening Doors: The Art of Inclusion
Twenty artists have been selected to transform ordinary doors into Opening Doors: The Art of Inclusion works of art over the next three months, focusing on the theme of bringing people together.
Arts Council of the Valley and The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham invited area artists to submit proposals for using household doors as blank canvases to highlight and celebrate inclusion, acceptance, unity, diversity, and belonging.
February 4 at OASIS, 1-4: come stencil the OASIS entry for the Opening Doors project. Delaney Westwood and Gemma Amendola, OASIS artists, will have prepared the door’s main colors using fluid art. The public is invited to help complete the door with colorful stencils (provided). No reservations needed, and this is a free, fun event.
The December project was themed "Flat Stanley". OASIS resident" kid expert Edda explained what/who Flat Stanley is and the kids were given flat Stanley images to color and talk about. Then we handed out small journals to be used however the kids wanted. Some started coloring, some wrote, and one kid even wrote and illustrated a story! The kids went home with their journals and a pack of colored pencils.
