Cancer treatment left Susan Hasler feeling like a house that had been gutted—drywall ripped out, studs exposed, and wiring mucked up by a toddler wielding a wrench. She struggled with the simplest of decisions. In February of 2022, she turned to neurographic drawing, a form of art therapy invented by Russian psychologist Pavel Piskarëv. The drawing process eased anxiety and helped her to function again. The drawings turned into writing prompts for a series of essays on self renovation.
